Special Education with Teacher of Students with Disabilities Certification, MEd

Program at a Glance

Develop and strengthen the skills, strategies, and knowledge to be a highly effective, creative special education teacher. This 33-credit, fully accredited program emphasizes the relationship among differentiated instruction, curriculum modifications, positive behavior supports, collaboration, assistive technology, and literacy instruction. Most courses are taught face to face in the late afternoon, with some hybrid and off-campus opportunities.

Careers

There is a high demand for skilled teachers of students with disabilities, and our graduates are successfully employed locally, nationally, and globally. Alumni have also pursued careers in areas including educational research or curriculum development, and some have gone on to earn doctoral degrees.

National Standardized Admission Test Requirement: Applicants to the MEd Special Education programs are required to take the GRE unless they meet the criteria of the waiver policy. The GRE is waived for individuals seeking the post-master's certificate program. Applicants should request that a score report be sent to The College of New Jersey (Code #R2519). The test scores must arrive by the application deadline and may not be over five years old. Graduate Admission Testing Information and Waivers
Copy of Teacher Certification: A CEAS or standard elementary or secondary education certificate with a teachable major or content area is required.
Educational Experience: Several years of teaching are required.
