Program at a Glance

This fully accredited, 33-credit program will enable you to work more effectively with students who have diverse learning needs. You’ll benefit from practice-rooted coursework and a focus on critical areas such as differentiated instruction, curriculum modifications, positive behavioral supports, collaborative structures, assistive technology, and literacy instruction. Most courses are taught face to face in the late afternoon, with some hybrid and off-campus opportunities.

  • National Standardized Admission Test Requirement:  Applicants to the MEd Special Education programs are required to take the GRE unless they meet the criteria of the waiver policy. The GRE is waived for individuals seeking the post-master's certificate program. Applicants should request that a score report be sent to The College of New Jersey (Code #R2519). The test scores must arrive by the application deadline and may not be over five years old. Graduate Admission Testing Information and Waivers
  • Copy of Teacher Certification: A CEAS or standard certificate in special education is required.
  • Educational Experience: Several years of teaching are required.
