Program at a Glance

This 24-credit certificate is designed to equip working teachers with the highly effective instructional skills, strategies, and interpersonal knowledge to teach students with diverse learning needs. The program emphasizes differentiated instruction, curriculum modifications, positive behavioral supports, collaboration, assistive technology, and literacy instruction. Most courses are taught face to face in the late afternoon; some hybrid opportunities are available.

Who Should Pursue This Program?

If you already hold a standard teaching certificate in an area other than special education and would like to pursue your New Jersey certification as a Teacher of Students with Disabilities, this fully accredited program is for you.

Careers

There is a high demand for skilled teachers of students with disabilities, and our graduates are employed locally, nationally, and globally. Those who don’t continue to teach have often pursued careers in educational research and/or curriculum development or have gone on to doctoral programs.
